U.S. President Joe Biden reported he does not believe Russian President Vladimir Putin will use nuclear weapons inspite of recurring threats to do so — even as the Russian leader continues to push on in the war in Ukraine.
“Perfectly, I you should not think he will,” Biden explained in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper that was aired Tuesday. “But I feel that it is irresponsible for him to discuss about it.”
Putin has indirectly threatened to use nuclear weapons. In a televised speech in September, he declared a partial armed forces mobilization and explained he would “certainly use all the suggests at our disposal to protect Russia and our men and women.” He added that he was not bluffing.

“He’s acted brutally. I believe he’s fully commited war crimes.”
On Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, Biden said: “I consider he thought … he was going to be welcomed with open up arms. That this was, this has been, the property of Mother Russia and Kyiv and, for that reason, he was going to welcomed.”
